KENYA

Kenya is a state in the African Great Lakes region of East Africa. Its capital and largest city is Nairobi, Kenya lies on the equator, with the Indian Ocean to the south-east, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan, to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east. Being one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, Kenya has been attracting millions of tourists over the past years. The country is endowed with attractive tourist sites, rich culture, striking geographical diversity and landscapes ranging from beautiful beaches, to animal parks and archeological sitesKenya’s famous savannahs and a wide geographical diversity are a home to Kenya’s dramatic extremes and classic contrasts. These include the Deserts and alpine snows, forests and open plains, the metropolis of Nairobi and colorful tribal cultures, freshwater lakes and coral reefs. For many people Kenya is East Africa in Microcosm. Wildlife safaris are the top tourist attractions in Kenya now for decades while other activities include trekking Mount Kenya, ballooning over the Masai Mara and Snoekelling in Malindi on the Indian ocean coast. Some of the spectacular tourist attractions in Kenya include the following

 

Nairobi national park

Despite its proximity to the city and the relative small size of the park, Nairobi National Park boasts a large and varied wildlife population. Migrating wildebeast and zebra gather in the park during the dry season, and it is one of Kenya’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuary. Nairobi National Park is separated from the metropolis by only a fence allowing you to view Nairobi’s skyscrapers from the national park itself. It is just a 10 minutes drive from the center of Nairobi.

 

Fort Jesus Mombasa

With an aim to protect the port of Mombasa from external invasion, Giovanni battista Cairati built Fort Jesus which now is one of the most outstanding historical sites and preservations of the 16th century. The fort occupies an area of 2.36 hectares.

 

Malindi

Interested in Coastal tourism, Malindi provides a very nice introduction to this with its extensive coral reefs and beautiful beaches. There are surfing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and other water sports. The Malindi Marine National Park is protected and has fine beaches clear water and very colorful fish. Malindi is served with a domestic airport and a highway between Mombasa and Lamu.

 

Sacred Mijikenda Kaya Forest

The 11 separate forest sites that make up the Sacred Mijikandi Kaya give Kenya yet another 16th century phenomenon with remains of several fortified villages locally known as Kayas. The land sits on 200km and is famed for bearing a living cultural tradition.

 

Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is an extinct volcano with a very impressive landscape with four secondary peaks and 12 remnant glaciers. The four secondary peaks sit at the head of the u-shaped glacial valleys. It is the second highest mountain in Africa, 5, 199m and has forested middle slops.

 

Samburu National Reserve

One of the most peaceful national reserve in northern Kenya, Samburu attracts wildlife because of the Uaso Nyiro River that runs through it and the mixture of forest and grassland vegetation. All three big cats, lion, cheetah and leopard, can be found here, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos. A large number of Nile crocodiles can be found in the Nyiro river.

 

Hell's Gate National Park

Tiny yet unique among Kenya’s wildlife parks, as you are allowed to walk or cycle without a guide. It was named after a narrow break in the cliffs, once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley. There’s dramatic scenery, with steep cliffs, gorges and basalt columns. The national park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, though many are few in number.

 

Lamu Island Lamu

Island is the kind of destination you don’t want to miss. The island is a part of Kenya’s Lamu Archipelago, and has managed to stay unspoiled and untouched by the mass tourism that has hit much of Kenya’s coastline. As the oldest living town in Kenya, Lamu Town has retained all the charm and character built up over centuries. There are no roads on Lamu Island, just alleyways and footpaths, and therefore, there are few motorized vehicles on the island. Residents move about on foot or by boat, and donkeys are used to transport goods and materials. Tsavo National Park Tsavo is Kenya’s largest national park and most definitely one of the largest in the world. The park’s size led to its division into

 

Tsavo West and Tsavo East.

The Tsavo West is known for a rolling volcanic landscape while Tsavo East has more open savannah than its western sibling. Tsavo National Park is the ideal destination in Kenya for people who seek solitude and privacy as well as the chance to explore the wilderness.

 

Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru’s famous Flamingo attraction has made it a unique tourist attraction. The shallow lake’s abundance of algae attracts vast quantities of lesser flamingos, sometimes more than one million at once. Often called the greatest bird spectacle on earth, the flamingos are one of Kenya’s top attractions.

 

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is your ultimate destination if you would like to be close to free-ranging elephants. A relatively small park located close to the Tanzania border at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli national park gives you an opportunity to meet the Masai people and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Turkana National Parks

The Lake serves as a study centre for plant and animal communities and a rich animal habitat. Nile crocodiles and Hippopotamus breed from here and it is a stopover for the migrant Waterfowl. Koobi Fora deposits, an archeological site, which is rich in mammalian and fossil remains sees a lot of educationists. Paleontologists attribute their understanding of their subject to this site more than any other site on the continent.

 

Masai Mara National Reserve Masai

Mara National Reserve is the country’s most popular game park. It is one of the top tourist attractions in Kenya and the country’s most popular game park. Each year the Masai Mara National Reserve is visited by thousands of tourists who come here to watch the exceptional population of game and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest. The “Great Migration” takes place every year from July to October when millions of wildebeest and zebra migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania.
