Uganda lies on the equator yet has snow at the peak of one of its mountains, Mountain Ruwenzori. It also harbors the world’s second largest fresh water lake, Lake Victoria and the world’s second longest river, River Nile. The Nile is known for its many rapids and falls which are good for white water rafting. 

 

Uganda was dubbed the ‘Pearl of Africa’ by Sir Winston Churchill and later named Lonely Planet Travel Forum’s best destination for the year 2012. Its fantastic natural sceneries and a rich mosaic of tribes and cultures is testimony to this. Geographical features/Location;

Uganda lies right below the Equator in Eastern Africa between longitudes 29 ½° East and 35° East and between latitudes 4 ½° North and ½° South, at an average altitude of 1,100 meters above sea- level.

The total area is 236,580sq.Km. Uganda is bordered by the Republic of South Sudan to the North, the Republic of Kenya to the East, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the West, the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Rwanda to the South.

 

People and Culture;

Situated at the geographical heart of the African continent, Uganda has long been a cultural melting pot, as evidenced by the existence of 30-plus different indigenous languages belonging to five distinct linguistic groups, and an equally diverse cultural mosaic of music, art and handicrafts. The country’s most ancient inhabitants, confined to the hilly southwest, are the Batwa and Bambuti Pygmies, relics of the hunter-gatherer cultures that once occupied much of East Africa to leave behind a rich legacy of rock paintings, such as at the Nyero Rock Painting Shelter near Kumi.

Rwanda-The land of a Thousand Hills!

 

Rwanda is a green undulating landscape of hills, gardens and tea plantations often called ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’.

Rwanda is a small, land-locked country on the eastern rim of the Albertine Rift Valley, part of the Great Rift Valley. It offers tourists a one of a kind journey - home to one third of the world remaining Mountain Gorillas, one third of Africa's birds species, several species of primates, volcanoes, game reserve, resorts and islands on the expansive Lake Kivu, graceful dancers, artistic crafts and friendly people.

 

She is in the recent past experiencing a tourism rebound after falling off the map after the genocide in 1994. Currently, Rwanda is a thriving, safe country with one of the lowest crime rates in Africa.  All major attractions are located within 1-5 hour drive from the capital, Kigali. In a short vacation, a tourist can reach volcanoes, rainforests, savannah, lakes and the beautiful city of Kigali.Located in the heart of Central and East Africa with easy access to bordering countries of Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo as well as to Kenya, Rwanda is an ideal location for travel within the region for conference tourism. A visit here can easily expand to include many of the great African destinations. Rwanda is all too often associated with the horrific events that unfolded in 1994. It has been etched into the world’s consciousness as one of the most savage genocides in history. What happened is beyond belief, but the country has taken giant strides towards recovery.
